SEL Summer Series Week 7: Thinking Through Conflicts
I don’t think anyone likes conflict, but it’s an important skill for us to help our students with. At the beginning of the year, I would recommend starting by defining conflict. (using books would be a great way to support this!) Help students identify types of conflicts. Then, think through ways to work through conflict effectively. Dive deeper by looking at the variety of ways to work through conflict and how this may be different from person to person.
In addition to thinking through conflict, I think this is an important time to also discuss being a member of a team. What does this look like? What does it sound like? Sometimes, when we work proactively as a team, we may AVOID conflict.
What are some ways that you help your students work through conflict? Leave your ideas in the comments!
