For Week 6, the topic is using communication and social skills to interact effectively with others. I truly believe that this is one of those skills we CAN’T assume our students know how to do on their own. We need to be modeling and practicing this skill on a daily basis.
How can you do this?
Create opportunities to share in morning meeting, small group, or during read alouds. Ask questions that support them sharing how they feel about whatever they are doing.
Discuss what makes a good team. How can they contribute to that team? What do they need from their team members?
During morning meeting, allow a time for questions and comments. This allows students to share their thoughts and feelings about the given topic.
Provide students with sentence starters help guide them through this process.
